Top 5 Free Alternatives to LastPass Password Manager

Who doesn’t like free software right? Free is awesome.

But sometimes free app becomes paid app after sometime, like what LastPass is doing. And within it is going to include some heavy restrictions such as it will work on only one type of devices – PC or Phone. You need to chose either one. For most of us we use both PC and Phone so we have to pay for the premium service if we need both apps.

Or Find an Alternative. There is a list of apps I have compiled below if you want to use an alternative.

1. Bitwarden

Bitwarden features, includes saving unlimited items, syncing across devices, and generating passwords. For everyday password usage, Bitwarden can be a good alternative.

The above features are free but if you need more functionality then you can pay $10 a year, which adds 1GB of encrypted file storage and two-step login, among other features.

2. KeePass

KeePass is fully free open-source password manager, but it’s a little difficult for less technically oriented users to use. Everything is stored locally, so while that can be more secure (you can store your passwords in a master key-locked encrypted database), it is also less convenient. You have to manually transfer all the passwords from one device to another or use a cloud service like onedrive, dropbox etc.

3. NordPass

NordPass has a free version which includes unlimited passwords and syncing across devices. There is no limit on the number of devices you can use, but only one can be active at a time — for example, if you use it on your phone, you will be logged out of your computer’s version. The premium version of NordPass lets you have up to six active accounts running at a time and which includes secure item sharing and a data breach scanner, among other features.

4. Zoho Vault

Zoho Vault is one of Zoho’s wide range of productivity apps, it has a free version that includes unlimited storage of passwords and notes, access from both computers and mobile devices simultaneously, two-factor authentication, and password generation, among a host of other features. Zoho Vault also has a paid plan, which starts at $1 / month per user, offers business options such as password sharing and expiration alerts.

5. Roboform

Roboform UI looks a lot like lastpass so if you want ease of use then this is the app you need. Its free version offers unlimited passwords, form filling and emergency access as it’s features. However, it does not sync across devices, which can be a definite inconvenient. But it’s premium service RoboForm Everywhere costs $18 for a 1-year subscription and this you sync across devices, perform cloud backup and also two-factor authentication.
